German late 12th century

A late 12th century German bronze Corpus Christi

Cast in the round, the back of the body flattened and deeply hollowed out, engraved, with older patina. A depiction of the crucified Christ with his head leaning slightly to one side, arms stretched out horizontally and legs parallel. His feet stand on a subpedaneum, beneath which is an integrally cast loop with a drilled hole. The quality of this piece is especially evident in the depiction of the facial features, the perizonium and the hair.
With minor wear. Height 22.5 cm, width of arms 18 cm.
