An Islamic mortar

Engraved cast bronze with remnants of red pigment and black and green flecks due to sintering. Slightly waisted form, decorated with three rows of eight lotus bud reliefs and calligraphic inscriptions. The base slightly concave due to usage. H 11.3, D 12.6 cm, weight c. 2.6 kg.
Attributed to Khorasan / Iran, 13th C.
