A rare Meissen Böttger porcelain ecuelle with the coat of arms of Beauvau-Craon/Ligniville

A tapering bowl with angular handles and original lid. The display sides and lid painted with the crowned arms of alliance supported by angels. The sides and back with finely gilt Chinoiserie scenes on strapwork brackets. Unmarked. Minor chips to the rim and firing cracks, minor wear to the gilding. H 11.5, D 11 cm.
The porcelain Meissen, circa 1720, the decor Augsburg, Bartholomäus and Abraham Seuter, circa 1722 - 25.

The alliance coat of arms represents the marriage between François Vincent Marc de Beauvau (1679 - 1754) and Anne-Marguerite de Ligniville (1686 - 1772). The marriage took place on 16 September 1704. Marc de Beauvau was elevated to the rank of Imperial Prince by Emperor Charles VI on 13 November 1722 and was awarded the title of "Prince de Craon", as indicated by the deposit of the coat of arms with ermine and the closed crown. It is possible that a service was commissioned for this occasion, which was painted by the Augsburg workshop of the Seuter brothers after a model by Christoph Weigel or Johann Christoph Weigel. The couple had 20 children, including the 2nd Prince de Craon, Charles-Juste de Beauvau, later Marshal of France, born on 10 September 1720.
