Peasants by a thatched Farmstead

Oil on panel. 33 x 32.5 cm.

This finely painted work displays stylistic similarities to the paintings of Jan van Goyen. The close-up view of the farmstead is unusual and can be explained by the fact that the panel has been cropped. The composition probably continued on the left side, possibly, as was usual with Goyen, with a view of a panoramic landscape.
