A coconut and leather kinchaku. Nagasaki. Mid-19th century

The domed coconut carved with two Chinese scholars by a pavillon underneath a aogiri-tree, the reverse with leather, damaged at the rim. Small fruit kernel ojime carved with a cherry blossom and a butterfly, details of silver, signed Rokujûshichi sai (the 67-year-old) Kozan. Dried fruit netsuke.
