A boxwood netsuke of a snail. Nagoya. Ca. 1820-1840

A carefully rendered model of a snail hiding in its shell with only the foot visible, the radial markings in fine relief with alternating wide and finer ridges, the tight himotôshi formed by the foot. Stained with the typical darker stripe to the shell. Signed Tadatoshiin ukubori in a raised rectangular cartouche.
