Probably Flemish second half 15th century

A carved relief of St. Leonard, presumably Flemish, 2nd half 15th century

Carved wood, the reverse flattened. The head worked separately. With extensive remains of older polychromy. Pierced, flat relief depicting the standing saint. The attribute which the figure holds in his hands, broken chains with a collar and lock, allow us to identify him as St. Leonard, patron saint of all prisoners.
With vertical hairline cracks and wear with losses. 84 x 31 x 5 cm.

Provenance

From a Dutch collection.
