An ivory relief with the appointment of a monk as a bishop, Flanders, second half 17th century

Carved ivory with minute remains of former polychromy. High relief depiction in a moulded surround showing an enthroned saint surrounded by angels placing a chasuble upon the shoulders of a kneeling monk as two assistance figures hold the crozier and mitre.
Minimal wear. Two drilled holes to the centre. Mounted in a velvet covered frame. 12.5 x 8.8 cm.
