Pencil drawing on paper. 15.4 x 10 cm. Framed under glass. Dated and inscribed 'GELMERODA, SONNT. d. 24. Juni, 06' in pencil upper right. With oval estate stamp "Feininger Estate" verso (not in Lugt) and numbered "B 79". Inscribed by an unknown hand "View of Gelmeroda, Lionel Feininger" verso. - In good condition.
This nature motif is thought to be Feinininger's first drawing of the Thuringian village church in Gelmeroda, the architecture of which he explored in some 150 paintings, drawings and watercolours over the course of his career.

Achim Moeller, director of the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, New York - Berlin, has confirmed the authenticity of this work, which is registered in the archives of the Lyonel Feininger Project under the number 1825-02-10-23. Certificate enclosed.
