A lacquer and wood netsuke of a karako. Second half 19th century

Standing and holding a large uchiwa decorated in lacquer and mother-of-pearl with a butterfly flying above blossoming hagi on kinji, the patterns of the robes finely painted in gold lacquer, the head and hands of ivory. Signed Hôjitsu. The handle of the uchiwa repaired and minor loss.
