An important parcel gilt Libau silver tankard

Cylindrical vessel with thick, curved handle resting on three spherical supports adorned with portrait medallions. The smooth body finely engraved with an arms of alliance in a round acanthus reserve. With small relief cartouches above the feet bearing depictions of putti and inscribed "Auf glük Ich bau / Und godt Vertrau / DK IHM". The lid and large spherical thumb rest with corresponding decor and inset at the crown with a medallion by Sebastian Dadler dated 1639, commemorating the capture of the besieged city of Breisach by Duke Bernhard von Sachsen-Weimar on 3rd December 1638, surrounded by the owner's inscription "Johann*Friederich*Mum / Dorotea Zobelin / Ao. 1713". H 26 cm, weight 2,337 g.
