An important Roman Baroque silver holy water stoop

Silver and fire-gilt bronze holy water dish with a finely chased depiction of the Virgin holding the sleeping Christ Child surrounded by five cherub's heads in the centre, against an ormolu drapery held by putti. The deep, oval bowl beneath a hinged lid containing a moulded inset of silver-plated copper. H 38; W 33.5 cm.
Marks of Antonio Politi, around 1730.
