A four-case inrō. 17th/18th century

Displaying five Chinese scholars and two servant boys carved of tortoise shell backed with gold leaf, seated on a garden terrace in front of a screen, the garden with palm tree, leaf bearing tree and a bizarre rock in gold takamakie and hiramakie, in the background stylised waves in fine aogai inlay. Nashiji and fundame to the inside. Carved stag antler ojime and wooden mask netsuke.
