A Berlin KPM porcelain cup with putti

Unidentified beaker with serpent handles and original saucer. Both items painted with small putti in landscapes. The snake handles picked out in brown with golden scales. Blue sceptre mark, pressnummers. H cup 7.2, D saucer 14.8 cm.
Around 1795.

The Cupid motifs are based on hand drawings by the English Princess Elizabeth (1770 - 1840), daughter of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, married Landgravine of Hesse-Homburg. They were published anonymously at the end of the 18th century, engraved by Peltro William Tomkins in 1822 and illustrate, among other things, the volume of poetry "Birth and Triumph of Love" by Sir James Bland Lamb, published in 1823.

Provenance

North German private collection.
