A Berlin KPM porcelain panel with a view of the church at Nikolskoe

Exceedingly finely painted view of the evangelical church of Sts. Peter and Paul located in a landscape park overlooking the Havel with figures in the foreground. Eagle blind stamp and 8. H 20, W 22 cm. H with painted wooden frame 27.5, W 29 cm.
Decor presumably by a 'hausmaler', 1840s.

The church was built at the suggestion of the former Princess Charlotte, then Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna, wife of Tsar Nicholas I, by her father King Frederick William III. Friedrich August Stüler, with the help of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, created a design reminiscent of a Russian Orthodox church, intended to express the king's connection to Russia in an architectural form.
