A Meissen porcelain cup and cover with a portrait of a German princess

Original saucer with crowned letter F. Blue crossed swords mark with star. A crack in the upper section of the handle, retouches to the finial, minor wear to the gilding. H with lid 8.7 cm.
Around 1782.

This cup may have been produced in commemoration of Princess Friederike Caroline Luise von Hessen-Darmstadt (1752 - 1782). She was married to Duke Karl II von Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1768. Her most famous daughter was Princess Luise, the later Queen of Prussia. Duchess Friederike died in 1782 at the age of 29 following the birth of her 10th child.
