Arno Fischer biography
Arno Fischer discovered photography as a young sculptor in the 1950s, when he took on a position as a laboratory assistant at the "Kunsthochschule" (art college) in Weißensee, where he was later allowed to teach. Fischer also taught photojournalism at the Fachhochschule (technical college) in Dortmund from 1990 – 2000, and as of 2001 at the "Fotoschule am Fischbauerdamm", which he founded himself as part of the "Ostkreuzschule" in Berlin. Fischer was most influential in the GDR for his photographs in the magazines “Sybille” and “Das Magazin”.
His mainly political photographs document life after the war in the East and West sides of his hometown of Berlin. Arno Fischer married the photographer Sibylle Bergemann in 1985.
