Limoges 1st half 13th century

A Limoges copper figure of Christ on the cross, first half 13th century.

Cast and rolled copper. Engraved, embossed and with remains of gilding.. The separately cast, crowned corpus attached to the crossbeam with small pins. The trefoil terminals decorated with finely engraved depictions of the Virgin, Saint John and two saints (possibly Evangelists). The reverse with two Evangelist symbols, a central figure of Christ blessing and foliate engravings to the crossbeams.
Slightly worn. Height 39 cm, width 23.5 cm.
