Mixed media (watercolour with black pen and ink) on slightly grained watercolour laid paper. Firmly mounted to light supporting cardboard (25.7 x 35.3 cm) with embossing in the margins 23.3 x 32.9 cm Signed, dated and inscribed 'Wallwitzhafen - / Dessau. April - Mai/ Düren 1917/ Seehaus' in black pen and ink lower right in the image. - Verso on the cardboard inscribed "Paul" by an unknown hand upper left in blue pen and "Wallwitzhafen Elblandschaft/ Dessau" lower right and numbered "21". - The supporting cardboard minimally unevenly cut, the lower corners with small traces of glue.
The small castle motif in the center of the watercolour is apparently taken from the "Wallwitzburg" in the Dessau-Wörlitz park, an artificial miniature castle which was built within the park landscape by Prince Johann Georg von Anhalt-Dessau between 1796-1800.
