An Augsburg silver gilt mounted ivory tankard

Cylindrical tankard with domed lid on three pad feet. The ivory body finely carved with a continuous depiction of a cavalry battle, presumably a scene from the Thirty Years' War. The lid finely carved with war trophies, the finial formed as a figure of Fortuna on a winged globe. With age-related shrinkage cracks. The feet of Fortuna restored, one wing of the finial replaced. H 29.5 cm.
Marks of Elias Adam, 1707 - 11.

Provenance

In Rhenish aristocratic ownership for several generations.
