A dated Grassmayr mortar with a conjoined monogram

Golden brown cast bronze with fine golden brown patina. With fine relief decor to either side: A laurel wreathed shield above the date "1686" engraved into the base. To the reverse the crowned conjoined monogram "CvL". Both motifs flanked by two casts of sage leaves. Laurel sprigs cast beneath the scrolling C-shaped handles. Signs of an earlier mounting in the cavity above the base. H 15.5, D 17 cm. Weight 5.4 kg.
