An important Braunschweig mortar

Cast bronze with chocolate brown patina. Of narrow, tapering form with a thick inclined base. With six bands of horizontal moulding and six vertical ribs. One curved handle and one slightly higher set smaller handle. With cast and engraved house marks to the centre and beneath the curved handle. Reste einer Mittelnaht, durch Gebrauch leicht klaffend. H 3.4, D 17.8 cm. Weight c. 8.8 kg.
Attributed to Henning Bussenschutte, 1st quarter 15th century.
