An unusual Gothic mortar with mascarons

Cast bronze with golden brown patina. Cylindrical form with a protruding flared rim. With demi-ribs terminating in bearded male mascarons at the base and crabs at the top. Two angular handles of octagonal section. A casting fault to the base. . H 21, D 19.2 cm. Weight c. 6.9 kg.
Nuremberg, attributed, second half 15th century.
