A Meissen porcelain cup and cover with merchant navy scenes

Tapering beaker of octagonal section and associated octagonal lid with a dragon finial. Decorated with finely painted harbour scenes in gilt lace surrounds flanked by two further harbour scenes in red camaieu. The lower section gilded and painted with harbour scenes in purple and iron red in eight arched reserves. The rim and edge of the lid with two different gilt lace borders. The centre of the lid finely painted with two harbour scenes amid fine purple strapwork. Blue crossed swords mark, the base and lid marked 2. in gold. The lid restored, the vessel with vertical cracks. H 19.5, without lid 12.9, D 10.3 cm.
Circa 1730 - 35, decor attributed to Christian Friedrich Herold.
