An early Hachmann mortar inscribed “IN DEO SPES MEA”

Golden brown cast bronze with polished natural patina. The display side decorated with a vacant coat-of-arms supported by winged demi-figures. Below the rim and above the base two broad banderoles inscribed in Gothic minuscule and Latin capital letters: “int iaer ons heren m vlc viii” and “IN DEO SPES MEA”. The handles formed as double-headed dragons. A loss to the base of the interior, a crack running almost around the entire body, some wear. H 14.5, D 14.5 cm, weight c. 5.1 kg. Includes a corresponding bronze T-shaped pestle. L 24 cm.
