A Meissen porcelain cup with a portrait of Count Camillo Marcolini and a saucer with Maria Anna O'Kelly

Decorated with facing silhouette portraits in gilded oval surrounds. Blue crossed swords mark with star and 4 (cup). H of cup 6.5, D of saucer 13.4 cm.
Circa 1800 – 1810, decor attributed to Samuel Mohn.

Camillo Count Marcolini-Ferretti (1739 - 1814), after a stellar career at the Saxon court, was appointed by the Silver Page in 1772 to the position of Real Privy Councillor and in 1774 to the position of Director of the Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen. In 1809 he was promoted to cabinet minister. The cup was probably made for this occasion. The saucer bears a portrait of his wife, Maria Anna O'Kelly. Both silhouettes can be attributed to the workshop of Samuel Mohn and may even have been painted by him.

Provenance

"Auctioned by Sotheby's London on 5th March 1895, lot 161.
