A Sino-tibetan bronze figure of Amitayus. 18th century

Adorned with tiara, earrings, necklaces and bangles, inlaid with coloured stones and glass the transcendent "Buddha of infinite life" sits in full lotus position (padmasana) on a double lotus base with an upper row of pearl-like stamens. The hands rest above the feet in dhyanamudra, originally holding the vase containing the nectar of life (amrata). The shawl lies over the shoulders, wraps around the arms and hangs down to the base. The copper plate of the closed throne base is decorated with an engraved visvavajra (double vajra).
