A Meissen porcelain plate from a dinner service with views after Canaletto
With gilded wave pattern border, painted in the centre with a detailed scene of the old market in Dresden, inscribed in black on the reverse "Perspective de la place du vieux Marché, contiguë â l'Eglise de la Sainte Croix â Dresde." Blue crossed swords mark with dot, blue painter's mark - in the basal ring, dreher's no. 39. D 23.2 cm.

The view painted on this plate follows an etching by Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto (1722 - 1780), entitled "Vuë de la Grande Place du Vieux Marché, du coté de l'Eglise de la S.te Croix et la Rue de la Porte neuve." and inscribed: "Peint dessinné et gravé par Ber: Belloto dit Canaletto Peintre du Roy: 1752:", housed today in the Kupferstichkabinett Dresden, inv. no. A 85865.
