A Berlin KPM porcelain panel with a view of Prince Albrecht's Palace

Finely painted garden scene with a rider in the foreground. Eagle blind stamp, 9 and S. H 15, W 18 cm. H with painted wooden frame 24.8, W 27.7 cm.
Decor presumably 'hausmalerei', around 1840, after a lithograph by Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Loeillot de Mars.

The palace was built between 1737 and 1739 and located at Wilhelmsstrasse 102. The Prussian Prince Albrecht (1809 - 1872) moved in there in 1830 and immediately arranged for it to be refurbished by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The painting shows the results of Schinkel's amendments, especially typical is the design of the garden with the luxuriant stocking of flower vases and the overgrown pergolas above the loggias.
The building was so severely damaged by an air raid in 1944 that it was left in ruins until 1949 before the Berlin senate decided to have it demolished.

Provenance
