Pencil drawing on fine drawing paper 59.2 x 44 cm Framed under glass. Signed 'R. Schlichter' in pencil lower right, titled 'Liebende' lower left. - Slightly browned in frame of mat with light-stain; smaller marginal defects closed professionally.

This drawing belongs to a total of 10 illustrations for Schlichter's autobiographic novel "Zwischenwelt. Ein Intermezzo", published in Berlin in 1931. It is the final scene of the dramatic love story between the artist and his wife Speedy. Here, after a furious pang of jealousy, Schlichter ruefully comes back to his wife and is consoled by her.
