A Meissen porcelain cup and saucer with the Muse Erato

Painted with a scene of a muse playing a tambourine with the young Cupid sitting on her knee. The lid with a traveller resting beneath the tree, the saucer with a large bouquet. Blue crossed swords mark with star, saucer also with 4 and purple 31. H with lid 9.3, D of saucer 14.1 cm.
Circa 1800.

This depiction of a Muse is based on François Boucher's work "La muse Terpsichore", painted for Madame de Pompadour in 1756 and reproduced in an engraving by Jean Daullé.

Provenance

The Hiemisch collection, acquired in 1982.
