A large stained walrus tusk netsuke of four shishi. Second half 19th century

The four animals are carved in typical stances: seated on its haunches, resting its head on the forepaws and raising the back, scratching its ear, and landing on its forepaws after a jump. A ball and a peony blossom are included in this unusual arrangement. The slightly domed base carved with a peony branch on a crosshatched ground.
