A fine ivory shunga netsuke of an ama and octopus, by Kiyozumi. Mid-19th century

The bare-bosomed girl with a knife in her hand is attacked by an octopus which encircles his tentacle around her arms while prying open her skirt with one tentacle and resting his funnel in her lap, the girl leaning backward with obvious pleasure. A towel is placed on the octopus’s head. The ama’s eyes of black horn, the animal’s eyes of mother-of-pearl and black horn. Signed Kiyozumi in an oval reserve.
