A very fine Tokyo school wood netsuke of Daikoku, by Sôko. Early 20th century

Seated on three stacked gold koban coins with head propped up on his left arm, he watches a rat seated on the mallet in front of him, on the bottom two kiri-mon and coin markings in a cartouche. Cord holes lined with green-stained bone. Signed Sôko on an inlaid tortoise tablet with red lacquer seal Ki (=Morita Sôko, 1879-1942).
