A rare marine ivory netsuke of a ningyo being attacked by an octopus. 18th/19th century

Swimming with flapping tail fin the ningyo grabs the funnel of an octopus encircling its scaly body with his tentacles. The scales and eyes are rendered with makie, the octopus partly lacquered brown. Signed Hôzan.
