A boxwood netsuke of a tengu no tamago, by Masakazu. Early 19th century

A long-haired karasu tengu emerges from a longish cracked egg, one claw pulling out his right wing while the other claw rests on the shell, one claw visible in a hole in the egg below. Signed Masakazu (formerly read Masasada) in a rectangular reserve.
Height 3.5 cm; length 4.5 cm
