A small amusing ivory netsuke of a tengu and an octopus. Late 19th century

The karasu tengu, dressed as yamabushi in trousers and with a tokin on its head, holds a sake bottle and a ledger with the characters “sake no kayoi” (sake chit book), behind him an octopus slings his tentacle around the tengu’s body.
Height 3.8 cm

The sake bottle stands for the delight of abundant drink and the account book signifies that he is trusted by his creditors.
