An ivory netsuke of a sculptor, by Sekkô. Mid-19th century

Sitting with hammer and chisel behind the almost completed sculpture of a shishi with a ball, the artisan wearing a jacket (happi) with a large character on the back, the right sleeve slipped off the shoulder in order to have more freedom of movement, a typical feature for a worker. Signed Sekkô.
