An interesting ivory netsuke of a Kakkyô. 19th century

Carved in openwork within the frame of a screen, Kakkyô stands beneath a pine branch, happily surprised at digging up a cauldron containing a treasure.
Height 4.5 cm

This is an illustration of one the Twenty-four Paragons of Filial Piety. The poor peasant Kakkyô decided to sacrifice his new-born child in order to be able to feed his ancient mother. When he started to dig the grave he discovered a treasure.
