A four-case Shibayama-inrô. Late 19th century

Displaying on one side an oni walking under a tattered umbrella and holding a basket with peonies and wisteria and on the other side a hanging basket with same flowers and a basket lid, all rendered in mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, bone, partly stained green, and coral on a kinji ground. Part of the basket lid restored, the kinji warped in various areas and some cases can no longer be opened. Cloisonné ojime.
